It's set in the future. Not too far off, but the future.Marjorie is 85 years old. She is sick. Walter, her husband died in the last year or two. She lives with her daughter (Tess) and son-in-law (Jon). In the very early minutes of the play, we learn that the 30-something man she is talking to is a computer program (prime) of her husband. Tess has been resistant to it but accepts it.It's very good.I ordered it when it was a pulitzer finalist, a full year before it was released in book form. I sat on it for almost two years before reading it. A big regret. I devoured it while on vacation in Kenya. It's lovely.
A beautiful tone poem that employs a Black Mirror/Twilight Zone device to questions of mortality and existence. It also evokes Ray Bradbury's humanism in the midst of the fantastic.
It's a really lovely play. The story asks wonderful questions regarding memory and why it is important to remember the bad a long with the good.
This play speaks in a spare, but profound way, about the nature of relationships, memory, human frailty, and artificial intelligence. Don't neglect to see the film...magnificent performances!
a wonderfully unique play
This is quite a fine play, from standpoint of language, plot, characterization. I believe it to be a bit "edgy" for standard community theatre, but it was thought-provoking and very true--not really science fiction--but certainly a believable projection into the scary potential of technology to "improve" the human condition.
I enjoyed the progression and was surprised with outcome. Gripping emotions with real life feel. Fiction often predicts future technology.
This was assigned for my play script analysis class. This was great my heart is definitely warmer. I would suggest
