Amazon doesn't link them, but there is book 2.5 - Sightwitch which is so amazing! Don't miss it!Iwill show up to your house and read every one of these out loud to you just so I can relive the joy of the first read.Some spoilers and stuff below if you're not familiar with the Witchlands Series, but if you've read Truthwich, Windwitch, and Sightwitch, this shouldn't give away too much into Bloodwitch. If you haven't read Truthwitch, Windwitch, or Sightwitch.... what's wrong with you? Get those books off your TBR and let them seep into your brain and infect your soul.Coming off of the perfect setup from Windwitch, we enter Bloodwitch knowing all our players, where they stand, what they want, and where they need to go. Then, as we all expect and hope for in an epic fantasy, Susan Dennard breaks everything .Chapter by chapter, we rotate between all our favorites. There are poisoned arrows, exploding buildings, horses racing through forests, and trebuchets launching seafire. Mountain bats hover, hiss, and fly. Monks betray monks. Monks betray their vows. Hell, everyone breaks a promise at some point! Interrogations, sacrifices, hard choices and thread families knit together and come apart at the seams. This book has deaths, near deaths, minor injuries, and near-misses. Truths and lies and everything in between! There is no rest at the end of the 20-year truce and the entire Witchlands wobbles towards war.Coming into the last 6 chapters, my favorite of the series was still Sightwitch which deftly weaves a dual narrative that brings the past and present together. And Bloodwitch is made 1000 times more enjoyable having read Sightwitch. But then chapter 55.... oh boy. And then chapter 56... momentum building. Susan hits us hard in chapters 57, 58, and 59. Oh my lord! 59! And then we settle into a stunned plateau to marvel at what was given to us. When I think about all that came together in the last six chapters, after all 54 amazing chapters before them, I just stand back and clap.Susan Dennard has delivered a truly marvelous addition to her Witchlands series. One that will forever have a place on my shelf and, probably, a near annual re-read.

This is the fourth book in the series, but the third full length novel. The writing in all of these books is amazing! The world building is excellent! The characters are wonderful! If you haven't read Truthwitch, stop reading this and go get it and read it NOW!Aeduan gets the lead arc in this installment. The fans have labeled him Baeduan and this book might actually give light to that name, really delving into Aeduan's backstory. He addresses some inner demons of his own and makes some great revelations. While looking pretty badass the whole time, I may add.This is an ensemble series so all of the main characters are back, scattered across the Witchlands. Iseult is with Aeduan and Owl. Safi is with Vaness in a gorgeously described throne room. Merik, Cam, and Ryber are being chased by the Fury towards the Sightwitch Sisters Convent! (This chapter got me so excited since Sightwitch was the most fresh in my mind) Vivia and Stix are learning more about the underground city. Throughout the book, these characters all make progress, switch adventuring partners, cross paths in amazing ways, and learn more about what's really going on in the Witchlands.There are so many great emotional moments in this book. Dennard excellently roots this series in complex characters and sprinkles in the immersive world in such a wonderfully palatable way. The chapters featuring Aeduan's youth especially hit me in the feels. BOOTS!!! I loved getting to learn more about the magical system and mythology. Sightwitch is absolutely a MUST-READ before this book.I obviously give this novel a 5/5! I can't recommend this series enough. It has everything that I like in a book series. If you like Fantasy and you haven't read this, you better get on it! And if you've read some of the series and aren't sure whether you want to pick up Bloodwitch, it is absolutely worth it!
