The first couple chapters are, what is linux, what are the different distro's and desktop environments. (GNOME/KDE/UNITY, etc)All of these I already knew, but if you are new to Linux, they give you a good idea of how it is different. Then it goes into power user, bash scripting/terminal use, then systems network admin topics are covered. If you are 100% new to Linux than this book will be over your head past the second or third chapter. You will basic Shell scripting, editors such as Vi, setting up Red Hat/CentOS server's and securing them with SELinux. (Secure Linux) The Scripting, Secure Linux, and setup of servers on Red Hat directly link to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux certification exams. This is great, but should have been more clear on the name of the book. If you want a more general Linux book, look for Linux Fundamentals, I also have that and it not distro specific.
I have read several of Nathan's programming books because he makes this subject that is so confusing to me understandable. He does not assume that the reader was born with any technical skills and explains the concepts exceptionally well. It is a great resource for a novice like myself.Got it for my nephew and he loved every bit of it!
When I take this guide after I learn more about the Linux operating system, I think that's the best guidebook for all who have interest Linux operating system. In here included easy user guidelines. This book has appropriately covered how to use the Linux Operating System and Command Line everything. Recommended!
I can say with confidence that this is one of the most useful books I have ever read as a beginner. I like the fact that the book covers so many topics and it gives you a very good jump start as a Linux user. I would recommend this book to everyone who wants an introduction to Linux at a beginner or intermediate level.
A well-written book and it's very easy to read and understand. I've now learned that Linux is such an easy and not as complicated as other operating system. This user manual is very helpful and have sufficient information about Linux. I actually enjoy reading this book, there are so much to learn.

A concise introduction to the Linux OS. Enough information to peek intrest or a least curiosity. A few really key portions were discussed much to briefly, or not at all. Good quick read that I'll recommend to other converts.
